Igor Pietkiewicz, PhD

Academic teacher and researcher at the SWPS University of Social Sciences & Humanities, head of the Research Centre for Trauma & Dissociation, Qualitative Research Lab, and chair of the Faculty Committee for Research Ethics. In his studies, he has been exploring the impact of cultural factors on health, well-being, and coping with distress. In the clinical area, he has been investigating alterations in consciousness and trauma-related symptoms, and how culture affects their clinical presentation (pathoplasticity).

He is certified psychotherapist and supervisor of the Polish Psychiatric Association. He also hold the European Certificate in Psychotherapy and the certificate of the Polish Psychodynamic Association. He works clinically at an out-patient unit in Sosnowiec, providing group therapy, supervising therapists, and co-ordinating an internship programme accredited by the Polish Psychiatric Association, for psychotherapists in training.

He also runs his private practice in Katowice. He provides psychotherapy and supervision in Polish and English. Hi mainly identifies himself as psychodynamic therapist and supervisor, however, in his work with traumatised patients he also uses EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and other techniques.
